When you are seeing cockroaches in your home, you can almost guarantee that the problem will be worse than you realize. Cockroaches spend most of their time hiding in dark places such as voids within your home or cracks and crevices and they are most active a night, which is when you are asleep. With these two factors alone, you can see how a home owner can easily underestimate the full scale of a cockroach infestation. Recently a customer from Merewether called us because there was a problem with German cockroaches in her kitchen – they were also seeing a larger species randomly in bedrooms and other rooms of the home. They thought the cockroaches in the kitchen were the main problem, but you could imagine our customers surprise when we completed our inspection and told them just how many cockroaches were in her roof void also.
Where do you find cockroaches?
We found the American cockroach in large numbers to the roof void, (pictured) and wall cavities. This customer chose to use Amalgamated Pest Control because we do not discriminate against different cockroach species. When we treat your house for cockroaches we treat it for all species that may infest your home for the same price. Whether you have a current cockroach problem or you need preventative treatments conducted. The customer knew that there was some larger cockroaches which would be seen most nights, but had no idea just how bad it actually was. The last time there had been a pest control treatment on this house was early in 2011.
How often should I have pest control done?
It is highly recommended that you have a pest control treatment every 12 months to ensure that you avoid major issues like pictured below and above. We spend the time to fully assess your property and investigate the areas where cockroaches live and breed. After completing our investigation we begin our treatment ensuring that everywhere a cockroach can live and breed is effectively treated with the appropriate methods. Our treatments have a minimised focus on where the cockroaches will run (skirting boards etc.), and have a high focus on getting the treatment actually to where the pests live making sure that there is nowhere they can live and breed, ensuring that you live in a cockroach free environment. In doing treatments this way with the equipment and products that are unique to Amalgamated Pest Control, we can confidently give you a 12 month service warranty. If cockroaches come back during this time, we will also. And that’s 12 months on all cockroach species domestically. A lot of customers ask us ‘is spring or summer the best time to have our pest treatment’? Our answer is simple ‘any time of year is a good time’. Why wouldn’t it be with a 12 month service warranty?
There are many health issues associated with cockroaches, don’t risk your families health. Sensitive people suffer skin reactions and may even trigger asthma attacks. Allergen may be ingested where foods or utensils are contaminated or inhaled when faeces becomes part of the household dust. Disease transmission is usually the main concern. The main reasons why cockroaches may be responsible for transmitting disease are that they often dwell in environments that support diseases harmful to humans such as grease traps, sewers and other polluted water sources.
You can reduce the attractiveness of your home by following the following few steps:
- Ensuring all food is in tightly sealed containers, (including pet food).
- Use garbage bins with tight fitting lids.
- Frequent cleaning of the kitchen and regular vacuuming.
- Repair any water leaks or dripping taps. Seal any entry points such as gaps around windows and doors or where pipes may enter walls.
- Seal any ‘cracks and crevices’ that may exist in the cupboards of kitchens, bathrooms and throughout the home. Have annual pest control treatments at your home.
