Black House Spider

Black House Spider

Spiders around the home are our most enquired about pest right now. It seems that many homes throughout the Newcastle area are infested with spiders at the moment.

There many different species of spider found around homes throughout the Hunter Region, but one of the most common is the Black House Spider.

This is the spider that you see making webs in the corners of your windows, on the external walls of your home, under eaves, on fascia’s and gutters, and in trees and plants in your garden – basically anywhere advantageous to them catching insect meals.

The warm weather that we have been having, combined with the rain, has created perfect conditions for insects to thrive. When insects are thriving, so too are their preditors. This is the main reason why there are so many spiders being found around our customers homes – so much food!

Are you seeing webs around the windows and gutters of your home? If you do, they’ll only increase moving forward. The best thing to do is have Amalgamated Pest Control conduct our Spider Treatment to your home.

Attracting venomous spiders to your home!

Messy webs

These messy webs can attract some dangerous spiders

The Black House Spider is a timid spider, that very rarely bites. If bitten, the bite can be quite painful and can cause swelling and other mild symptoms, but they are generally not considered dangerous. They do build highly visible, unsightly webs around your home, making them quite easy to spot.

A big concern, which most people are not aware of, is what this spider can attract to your home: the venomous White Tail Spider. The White Tail Spider is a hunting spider that does not build webs. It is active mostly at night and hunts for other spiders, with one of their favourite meals being the Black House Spider – that is hanging right outside your window.

The more Black House Spiders you have around your home, the more food there is for the White Tail Spider. Controlling the Black House Spider in turn discourages the White Tail Spider entering your home.

How to Get Rid of Spiders

To control this spider, and most spiders that spin webs, our treatment involves both chemical and non-chemical methods.

The external area is where we usually start, where we treat the entire surface area of external walls. This ensures that all spiders, and their seldom seen spiderlings, that will be on the walls receive the treatment. Sometimes a wall may look like there are no spiders on it, especially brick walls, however once treated they can be seen to be crawling with spiderlings that were too small and well hidden to be seen when not moving.

Eaves, guttering, and fascia’s are treated. Treatment is applied carefully around windows, and if applied correctly and carefully will not run or mark windows.

Gardens, plants, shrubs and the like will also be treated. The treatments we use are all certified and will not harm your plants. All other areas of a home and yard where spiders are known to be are also treated.

These spiders might be the least of your worries

All the products that will be used in this treatment generally have no smell. If spiders are a problem inside your home, we will always look for non-chemical methods of control or removal first.

Spiders can be removed and controlled internally simply by vacuuming or brushing the spiders down. If the infestation is high, certain products, registered by law to be safely used inside homes, will be used.

Treatment is often also applied to roof voids and wall cavities. Sometimes sub-floors may also need to be treated in extreme cases.

Most webbing spiders produce one generation per year, and Amalgamated Pest Controls treatment procedures for spider control target every spider that can be calling your home, their home. We will provide you with a full 12 month service warranty for the spider treatment. That means if the spiders come back, so do we, at no additional cost to you!

Treatments are also recommended for other insects around the home. The fewer insects there are living around or resting on your property, the fewer insects there will be for spiders to eat, which will in turn mean less spiders.

Contact Amalgamated Pest Control Newcastle and ensure that spiders and other pests are not a problem at your property this summer.
