Cockroach control in Newcastle

12/04/2016 by admin_apcmedia

Turn on the light and cockroaches scamper everywhere – is this happening at your house?

Travelling under the house

Recently, Amalgamated Pest Control Newcastle has received higher than normal amounts of requests for bookings for cockroach control.

Normally as the weather cools down you don’t tend to see as many cockroaches in your house. That is not the case this year, however, as the above average rain at the start of the year, and the warmer weather, has provided optimal breeding conditions for cockroaches and many other types of insects.

As a result of these breeding conditions, and the subsequent high population levels of cockroaches, the competition is on to find enough food, water and shelter. This is why you might be experiencing higher than normal activity throughout your house.

New Lambton cockroach surprise

Cockroaches after Treatment

The results of a treatment where the home owner expected just a few!

Recently we attended a property in New Lambton for a treatment, where the home owner had spotted just a few cockroaches, mainly at night. The home owner was amazed, the next day after the treatment, at the amount of dead cockroaches outside around the house.

There were so many that the home owner went around the property and swept them up into a pile (pictured), called our office the next day and let us know what they had discovered around the outside of their house. They were amazed at the results after only seeing the odd cockroach at night. They were unaware that there were actually that many cockroaches at their home.

Cockroaches are normally nocturnal, so if you are seeing a few through the day there are bound to be many more living at your place.

The species of cockroaches that are most common to the Newcastle region are the American and the Australian (larger cockroaches), and the smaller German cockroach, which loves to live in the warmth of your appliances.

The American and the Australian cockroach will enter your home from the outside, and will usually live in your sub-floor or roof and wall voids. Our treatment focusses on the areas where the pests live and breed, to ensure that we get the best results for your property.

German cockroaches in Belmont

Another property that we attended in Belmont had a German cockroach issue. The home owner knew that they had some issues, but were unable to find where the cockroaches were hiding.

Our technician conducted a site assessment upon arrival, and discovered a number of places where the German cockroaches had been hiding and breeding. The German cockroach will hide in the smallest areas of your kitchen and bathrooms. Our technician found German cockroaches in the gap in the bottom on the kitchen chair (pictured).

German cockroaches are most commonly brought into your house in second hand appliances, parcel deliveries or stored items from another premises.

With Amalgamated Pest Controls cockroach treatment, it does not matter what breed of cockroach that is in your home, as our treatment covers all breeds of cockroaches and comes with our 12 month service guarantee – Guaranteed Gone. That means if the pests come back during the warranty service period, then so do we – at no extra cost to you!

Cockroach control tips

  1. Remove Food: You need to be able to reduce the food source for the cockroaches. This means removing stray food particles lying around by good cleaning practices. Do not leave food scraps exposed. Make sure that you pay particular attention to cleaning cracks, crevices, bench tops and appliances. It is also a good idea to seal up any rubbish bags. Keep all food in sealed containers.
  2. Remove Water: Cockroaches need water to survive. They love warm damp places. Look out for leaking taps or places indoors where water will collect. Check for leaking plumbing in the kitchen and bathrooms. If your property has a sub floor area make sure that water drains away properly and it is well ventilated.
  3. Remove Shelter: Cockroaches prefer small confined spaces like cracks and crevices. Taking away their preferred habitat and breeding grounds is an important aspect of cockroach control. Seal all cracks and crevices in the bathroom, pantry and kitchen cupboards, including cracked tiles and splashbacks. Avoid storing unnecessary items like cardboard and plastic bags from the supermarket.
